Baby Dental Care

Baby teeth are something that need to be greatly taken care of, because they set the foundation of the adult, permanent teeth that will soon follow. And because baby’s teeth are so sensitive, they have to be given special consideration. Parents should think about, in addition to getting them the best baby toys or buying them lots of cute baby clothes, giving babies the best dental foundations they can give!

The best way to do this is to start during pregnancy. Mothers can begin by having a very healthy diet during gestation, as well as taking vitamins that have a lot of vitamin A, Vitamin C, and Vitamin D, with protein, phosphorus, and calcium. This is because the baby’s gums begin to develop months before the actual delivery, and by supplementing this development early, the baby can benefit greatly.

When the baby comes, there won’t be any teeth yet, however, this doesn’t mean that proper dental care can’t be done yet. Baby’s gums can accumulate residual milk, which if not removed can be harmful to the child’s gums. To clean this, soft gauze wrapped around the mother’s finger can be used to wipe the gums. This should be done on a regular basis, especially before the child sleeps. In addition to this, parents should make sure that the baby doesn’t sleep with or always hold a bottle of milk or juice.

Once the baby’s first tooth comes, the parents can move to using a soft toothbrush to cleaning the tooth. It is important to use a toothbrush that’s specifically designed for babies, as normal adult toothbrushes will have bristles that are harder, and can be harmful to the child’s gums. During this stage, it is not necessary to use a toothpaste yet, although when the child reaches 2-3 years old, it is recommended to begin using some.

These simple steps can ensure a newborn baby’s dental security!
