If you think your friends and family would enjoy getting together for a holiday movie viewing party, we have some ideas for you. These ideas would be appropriate for any group of people, whether young or old. For an older group, you can show one of the well loved Christmas classics, while for a younger group, you can choose one of the new classics. This type of party tends to work best with smaller groups, since you won’t have to pause the movie so much when somebody needs to grab some more refreshments or run to the restroom, so keep that in mind as you plan your guest list.
One of the all time classics for Christmas movies has to be “It’s a Wonderful Life” starring Jimmy Stewart. If you haven’t seen it, it’s a heart warming story of a man who is given the chance to see what the world would have been like without him. While not specifically a Christmas movie, the movie’s climax does take place on Christmas eve, and ends with the family in front of a Christmas tree, so the movie is an entirely appropriate choice for a Christmas party.
For a younger crowd, or a group that is in the mood to laugh, you can’t go wrong with the Griswold family and their escapades that are portrayed in the National Lampoon movie “Christmas Vacation,” starring Chevy Chase. The Griswolds have many funny adventures (along with many funny family members) as they try to survive the holidays. For an extra funny treat for your guests, you could pull out some Christmas Vacation moose mugs and serve your guests some eggnog at the same time that the Griswolds are drinking eggnog from their mugs in the movie! With our favorite margarita recipe, you could even serve your adult guests some Christmas margaritas!
