Termites can cause hundreds or even thousands of dollars in damage if they are not taken care of properly. Not only is it expensive to kill termites in your home but it can also be a headache. Many people feel overwhelmed by treating these pests, causing them to wait too long to take care of the problem properly. Instead of wasting time trying to figure out who to call or how to treat them, homeowners should try using a simple method that will save time and money.

One of the most popular methods used to rid homes of termites is called baiting. Baiting focuses on getting the termites to flock to toxin filled, bait boxes. Once termites have been enticed to come to these boxes, they feed on the toxins and in turn die. Many professionals use this method first when fighting termites, and most swear by the results. This method can be carried out without having to call professionals. The toxins can be powerful and often times, homeowners are cautioned to not make close contact to the area once the treatment has been administered.

For those homeowners that do not wish to use harsh chemicals in their home because of the negative effects on the environment, there are natural termite control options. One of the most popular natural methods of treatment is to use boric acid. Boric acid can be found in drug stores and home improvement stores. This white powder can be placed around the house or mixed in with paint to kill off and prevent termites from damaging ones home.

Boric acid can be used to kill an already existing colony by mixing the acid with water and soaking wooden, ground stakes in it. After letting the stakes soak for a few hours, the stakes should then be buried in the ground around the home. Termites will then eat these stakes and die off. Because the stakes will be eaten by the termites, it is necessary to use a high number of boric acid soaked stakes.
