Ways to Prevent and Treat Hemorrhoids

Hemorrhoids, which also are sometimes called piles, can be very uncomfortable and annoying. They can cause major discomfort especially if you have an office job that requires a lot of sitting. Being somewhat of an embarrassing condition, many people just ignore their symptoms hoping they will clear up on their own, but this is never a good idea. Common symptoms of hemorrhoids are bleeding, discomfort, swelling and itching which are symptoms that should never be simply dismissed or ignored. Any bleeding or discomfort can also potentially indicate a more serious colorectal disease such as colon cancer, and this is why these symptoms should always be discussed with a doctor.

One of the hemroid treatments available is surgery, but most people are hoping to avoid this option. Luckily, you do not have to go through the knife unless your hemroid situation is at its worst, so you better act on your problem before it becomes too bad.

Diet is the leading risk factor leading to hemorrhoids this is why you need to change it so that whatever you put in your mouth will not cause you problems in the future. One of the causes of hemroids is constipation, which is why you need to eat more fiber and drink plenty of water to help your digestive system. You should also stay away from food that may not agree with you and make you more likely to become constipated.

Bathroom Practices

You need to understand that you need to be careful once we develop hemroids. You need to be a little gentler with your daily habits, don’t rub so hard after using the bathroom, and gently pat dry instead. You may also want to switch from toilet paper to moist wipes. Using underwear made of cotton will also help keep the condition at bay. If you feel any itching or discomfort in the area, wrap some ice cubes in a towel and place it on the area for about ten minutes. Follow it up with a warm, moist towel for another twenty minutes which should provide hemorrhoid relief. Moving around instead of sitting or standing in one spot can also help take pressure off the region.
