The music scene is a notoriously hard scene to break into. While it’s easy for any one to start making music and share it with any one from across the world, actually making money from your music is a different story all together. The average independent musician doesn’t make any money form their music at all, and if any thing loses it by spending on studio hire, travel and the like.
So it begs the question, how realistic is it for a independent musician to make a full time living from their music? Well while it won’t be the easiest thing in the world, it isn’t impossible.
It’s important to say though that you of course need talent, and a good amount of it. Use any of the tactics I’m about to share without any talent and they simply won’t work. Have talent however and these strategies will work a treat.
So what are some of the best ways to make money with your music? Well, the first and best way to make money from your music is via music royalties. Royalties are money that’s paid to you every time your songs get played on any licensed radio or TV station, as well as being performed at licensed venues such as night clubs.
Because of this it’s a good idea to befriend DJs. These are the people that will be playing your songs, so getting them on your side will mean more plays. And of course, more plays means more money.
Because you won’t be giving out as much free music though, it’s important to set up a website where people can keep up to date with your latest going ons. It’s a good idea to tell them if they want to hear your music then request it on radio. This will show DJs people want to hear you.
Musicians can make a full time living from music, but it takes a lot of work.
