Most people who struggle with their weight are so busy looking for the latest and greatest diet plan that they fail to look into the reasons they overeat in the first place. A great way for folks to begin this process is to incorporate the Serenity Prayer into their life. The Serenity Prayer was written back in 1934 and pretty much everyone is familiar with the beginning of the prayer. “God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; courage to change the things I can; and wisdom to know the difference.” However, it is the extended version that you need to understand in order to find the inner strength needed for weight loss. Let’s investigate how pieces from the rest of the prayer can used to help.
“Patience for the things that take time.” This can be the hardest part for anyone trying to shed pounds. You didn’t become overweight in a week so you can’t expect to shed those pounds in a week either.
“Appreciation for all that we have.” We live in a very materialistic society and people can easily lose sight of the wonderful things they already have in their life. If you concentrate on being grateful for the things we have, then you will be able concentrate more on exercising or eating better.
“Tolerance for those with different struggles.” At times, everyone can get a bit impatient with other folks who are struggling with their own issues and circumstances. No matter how different someone may appear, we must accept them as they are.
“Freedom to live beyond the limitations of our past ways.” The minute you decide to lose some weight, you are a faced with a choice. A choice to either continue down the path you have been on or create a whole new lifestyle.
The choice to change is yours and yours alone.
